SFC5 | Ideas Presentation (Notes)

Idea 1: ‘Rise and Shine’

Concept:

  • 10 minute short film about a teenage boy, Fred who prefers the dreams he experiences whenever he sleeps to the reality of his life
  • A comedy based in the sleepy town of Malvern where everything seems to be taken over by old people
  • Fred is frustrated with the state his life is in. He feels there is nothing to do and finds even his closest, and only friend, Billy vapid and un-relatable
  • The film would have multiple dream sequences which take us into a far more exciting version of Fred’s life
  • These dream sequences could be animated. I need to explore this further

Audience:

  • Teenage to 20’s
  • People who can relate to Fred’s situation
  • The youth of Malvern

Production:

  • Idea fully realised and scripts produced by 16th March (end of March to perfect film package for SOUP)
  • 2nd of April local SOUP event is a great opportunity to seek funding, talent, crew and promote the film
  • Pre-production will begin in April (first 3 weeks)
  • 1 week of shooting it scheduled for the end of April
  • 1st week of May is available as a backup shooting week/Pick ups
  • 2 Weeks of post production (including test viewings of film)
  • Final film delivered 24th May

Output:

  • The final output for this project will be a short comedy film
  • 10 minutes running time
  • Suitable to enter film festivals such as Aesthetica Film Festival in York
  • A strong piece for my own portfolio

Idea 2: ‘Story Space’

Concept:

  • A story about contemporary life told from the point of view of a space traveller resting at an intergalactic space bar in the far future
  • 8 minuet long comedy. We view our modern way of living from a distorted, misremembered angle.
  • The space traveller is actually recalling a tale that has been passed down through the family of an adventure his great (x50) grandparents had
  • It is the story of how they met with obscure references to pop-culture today and how that influenced them to get together

Audience:

  • late teens to early 30’s
  • Anyone who is aware of modern culture

Production:
